Romance and The Romance

I'm a fan of The Romance Theater here in Rexburg, and as I was staying up late (again) thinking of what I would do differently if I were in charge of it, I began to wonder what was being shown during this week of romance--Feb. 14th--at the theater.

So, I got into the archives of the Rexburg Standard and searched for this week in 1936--since the theater was officially changed from The Rex to The Romance in October of 1935, February 1936 would have been the occurrence of the first Valentine's Day under the new name.

Here's what I found in an edition dated Thursday, February 13th:

It figures that I haven't seen any of these movies--not even those playing at the Elk. Lame. And, aside from Mutiny on the Bounty, I haven't heard of these movies. Double lame. It's a humbling moment for me, which I'm sure is supposed to be good.

Overall, what odd titles to have been released during this romantic of holidays. I'm a bit surprised that there wasn't much romance featured for the first Valentine's Day at The Romance. Shame.
